HAL, is a realistic robot that has a pulse just like human and can cry, talk, bleed and go into anaphylactic shock. The Robot Hall was created by Gaumard Scientific, which is used as teaching simulators for hospitals and medical schools.

Gaumard is also behind other realistic training robots like Victoria, which is a robotic woman who can give birth, and Super Tory, a newborn baby that helps trainees spot signs of illness in infants.

‘Participants can perform emergency procedures like chest tube thoracostomy, needle decompression and surgical airways with realism,’

‘It’s the closest experience to real world pediatric emergency care available today.’

Before its creation, Guamard engineers studied actual children by looking at their facial expressions, including how their eyebrows furrowed and muscles moved. It’s made up of a mechanical-pneumatic system that creates a pulse, and a cartridge in the robot’s leg which exhales carbon dioxide. A hydraulic system pumps blood throughout his body and makes him cry tears. With this, Trainees can learn how to operate a glucose monitor on the robot, as pricking his finger will generate a drop of blood.

They are also able to cut an opening in Hal’s throat to insert a tracheal tube, simulating the creation of another airway. Hal can be connected to an EKG to monitor his ‘heart’ & pulse using an arm cuff, or jolt him back to consciousness with a defibrillator.

His eyes can follow a light in front of it and his pupils will shrink if a light is shone in front of them. The robot can even urinate or go into cardiac arrest.

In situations like anaphylaxis, his tongue will swell, his throat will swell,’ according to James Archetto, Gaumard’s vice president.

Hall doll can shake his head from side to side, call out for his mother when feeling distressed and cry real tears.

This is really amazing I must say and a major breakthrough in the medical world.
