Eye strains effects can be a bit scary, We live in a digital world and everyone uses electronic devices like phones & computers.

Due to excess exposure, to this devices, everyone is very susceptible to Eye strains which elderly people are more prone to as a result of age related changes to the eyes. Office workers are also highly prone to it. Examples of eye strains are dry eyes, sensitivity to light, eye twitching, itchiness and red eyes.

Eye conditions can also lead to some other health problems like back pain, neck pain and headaches. It’s very unlikely to avoid this electronic devices, but there are still solutions to reduce the effects.

1. Have A Routine Eye Checkup.

This is the most important thing you can do to prevent effects of eye strains. If you haven’t had an eye exam in over a year, please consult an eye doctor near you.

every computer users especially adults should have an eye exam at least once or twice in a year.

2. Use Right Lighting

Eye strain can also be caused by excessive bright light either from sunlight coming in through a window or from interior lighting,  caused by Fluorescence or light bulb.

Eliminate excessive outdoor lighting by closing with shades or blinds. Interior lighting can be reduced by putting fewer light bulbs or using lower intensity bulb.

3. Blink Frequently

Blinking of the eye is normal and important in preventing eye strains.

It prevents the entry of foreign object into the eye, it also shuts too much bright light from unprepared eye. Blinking also helps in spreading tear film over the exposed surface of the eye and keeps the eyes moist and healthy.


4. Palming

Palming gives immediate relief to strained eyes. First of all, rub your hands together and warm your palms.

Close your eyes and cover them gently with your warm palms for 30 seconds. Then open them and roll it for 5 to 6 times. Repeat this a few times a day.

5. Adjust Your Computer Display Settings

Adjusting the brightness of your device can help reduce eye strain.

For a test, look at the white background of this page. If it looks like a light source, it’s too bright. If it seems dull and gray, it’s low.
